Day 32

Cute pic on a beautiful day at a beautiful place! The Arboretum

Day 31

I love that wherever we go, the kids find a game to play together. They really enjoy each other and know each other well enough to come up with a game that the other person will think is fun. I think the most important thing I need to teach them is to love. Playing games together is a way they show love!

Day 30

This is a pic of the kids helping me put sprinkles a cake ball recipe we tried. Emmett did very little sprinkling and mostly eating them... Didn't fall in love with the cake balls like I wanted to.

Day 29

Ali the other day asked if I wanted to see her pray. (she doesn't usually do the praying) I asked her how she does it. "like you," she said matter-of-factly. WOW! What else is she learning by watching me? Then today before school she asked me to pray with her. She needed help handling the social aspect of school. Prayer is real to her because she sees a real need for it. I think she gets it...

How do you handle that 5:00 slump? Windex and paper towels.

Day 27

Here is ali's backpack ready for school. It's such a hard thing to send your kid out into the world. In ali's case, it alters her personality. Which makes me want to home school her. Then I realized, as adults, our personalities are altered by our environment as well. You are either more like yourself on vacation or more like yourself in your normal day-to-day life. Either way, you've got to learn that and how to deal with it. It's just hard knowing the long, hard road ahead of your kids. But, you take a little bit of home with you to make you feel more secure. Don't we all?

Day 26

Here is ali's sick day picture. She is such a crack-up! She got sick on her jammies and was upset that she was going to have to change. "but, mom! That will be wasting! What does wasting mean?". Then later, I asked her if she was going to be sick again. So we go to the bathroom and wait. We pull up a stool for her to sit next to the potty. After a while she says, "I can't sit here all night!". Funny, sweet girl...

Day 24

On the way home from dinner tonight, Ali says "Look! It's a wisher!". Reunion Tower looks like a "wisher" (a dandelion) to her...

Day 23

Transitions are always so tough for Ali. And, since she started school, she is in another transition. She works so hard to handle the new situation, new people, new schedule, new everything, that she doesn't have much left in her to handle normal things at home. It's like her body is mis-firing inside her and, for some reason, playing with things like playdoh, sand, water, flour, etc, resets her body a little. So, yesterday was flour. Today is playdoh cupcakes :). Isn't she cute?

Finally! A day we can go outside to play :)

Day 18

Drew has been playing Mario Kart on the Wii with the kids. And they LOVE it when they win a trophy. Ali was doing some sort of race in the house that she "won". So, here is the trophy she made herself :)

Day 17

Our kids do a lot of painting. Drew was leaving for work the other day and he said to Emmett, "goodbye Salvador dolly". Emmett of course said, "I Emily!". Drew said, "okay. Goodbye Salvador Emily.". Emmett hears "Salvador" and is not pleased, as it is not a train name. So he changes it. He wants to be called "Sodor Emily". Very appropriate :)

Drew did a great job painting Ali's nails for her :). She loves them.

Emmett loves his painted nails, too...

Day 13

This is what happens after a long day playing with cousins and no nap. It's amazing how sleep (or lack thereof) so drastically changes the behavior of my kids. Luckily, we all get new mercies every morning.

Day 12

What I love about doing this idea as a blog, is that I take more pictures and even keep ones that might have a story but not a great photo. Like this one. Ali jumped up on this butterfly chair and made a wish. I was hoping to get a cute pic of the kids looking at me. Instead I get a picture of Emmett making his wish. "I wish to be a monorail". Love it. Love them.

Day 11

Snow day in Dallas. I loved being able to go to the mall even though it was snowing. No real major threats here! Then we came home and threw snowballs for a bit, built the world's smallest snowman, and watched the sun come out. Not a bad day...

Day nine

We didn't send out Christmas cards and I haven't really posted any Christmas pics on Facebook, so I wanted this one to be here (even if it's January)...

Day seven

I never thought a whole lot about birds until I lived in San Francisco. They seem like they are going to eat you and your food if you sat still long enough.

This sight by my house here made me throw up a little in my mouth... (the picture can't really show just how many birds hang around this intersection. Gag.)

Day five

What is so great about this picture is the fact that no one is in it. Which means I am alone at the table while the kids are playing in the play area without me! I made it! I knew someday the kids would play without me, and they do! Yay for an independent spirit :)

Day three

Emmett found his spare Hobbs we bought just in case something happened to his original one. He found it after going on a search mission in my mom's spare closet. He had seen it once before, a few months ago. He has never talked about it or looked for it since. Until, naptime. Left to his own devices, he dug through the closet. Found the Hobbs. Put him in his bed. And, went to sleep. Funny what kids think about, but maybe never talk about :). Notice how clean one of them is...
